Broaching is a machining process that uses a toothed tool, called a broach, to remove material from a workpiece. There are two main types of broaching: linear and rotary. Most broaching machines are hydraulic and can be a horizontal or vertical motion. Vertical machines are more popular, comprising approximately 90% of all broach machine purchases.
